The 2007-2008 Tony Award nominations are announced on May 13, and In The Heights earns the most nominations of any show in the season: 13. In addition to a Best Musical nomination, In The Heights also picks up nods for Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Actor, Best Featured Actor, Best Featured Actress, Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design.

At the 2008 Tony Awards, In The Heights wins four Tony’s including the coveted award for Best Musical, beating out Cry Baby, Passing Strange and Xanadu. In additional to Best Musical, Lin-Manuel wins for Best Original Score, Andy Blankenbuehler wins for Best Choreography and Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman win for Best Orchestrations.

'In The Heights' gets picked up by Universal Pictures and heads to the big screen

Universal Pictures (Mamma Mia) announces that they plan to adapt In The Heights as a feature film for release in 2010. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Meryl Poster, who executive produced the film Chicago, will produce. Quiara Alegria Hudes, who wrote the book for the show, will pen the screenplay.

The first national tour of In The Heights is announced, beginning at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in Tampa, Florida on October 27. It will then play Atlanta, Minneapolis, Hartford, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Houston, Austin, Tempe, San Diego and Costa Mesa into August 2010.
